Legendary Swimwear in Movies

The modern swimwear trends as we know them are a product of the long history of swimwear style development.

Movie industry was and is still considered one of the biggest influences on the swimwear trend development. Today, we would like to tell you about several films which brought attention to the swimwear models that ladies still admire today.

 

1952 Manina, the Girl in the Bikini

Manina was the first movie role for a 17- year old Brigitte Bardot. The movie appeared to have controversial reputation due to the young age of the actress and for the scanty bikinis worn by the Bardot in the film. At the time the movie was produced bikini was still widely considered immodest, so

Manina, the Girl in the Bikini is the first occasions when a bikini had appeared in the film.

With a title like The Girl in the Bikini, young and beautiful Brigitte Bardot gained immediate fame and managed to make the once-immodest bikini a rising swimwear trend.  

1962 Dr. No

The white bikini of Ursula Andress is known from the appearance in the movie Dr No. It was a white bikini worn by Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder in the 1962 James Bond film. It is considered one of the most famous bikinis of all time.

Andress's white bikini changed the whole swimwear industry as, after the release of Dr. No, the sales of the two-piece bikinis rocketed.

The lower part of the bikini features a wide white British Army belt with brass buckles and fittings, and a scabbard on the left side to hold a large knife.

 

1995 Baywatch

The female stars of Baywatch wore the high wasted red one-piece swimsuit, which became extremely popular along with the show itself.

Fun fact:  The legendary red swimsuit was designed to look exactly like the swimsuits worn by real-life California beach lifeguards.
